Chinon
This vineyard spreads along the left bank of the Vienne
river. The red wine, made from cabernet franc grapes grown
in siliceous soil, is very appreciated.
Chinon's most exuberant admirer was Rabelais, who grew his
own grapes nearby at la Devinière. He was said to
have made "vin taffetas", a smooth gently wine.
