When you visit Chambord, you also discover its park
which is one of Europe's finest.

Historians say that construction of the Chambord
chateau began in 1526. Francois I himself was
involved in the design of the chateau. The idea of
building a walled park around the chateau is said
to be his, and he is also said to have helped stake
                  out and mark its boundaries.

Legend has it that Leonardo da Vinci, then living
at the Clos Lucé in Amboise, made several
plans and models used for the construction of the
chateau. But there is no officially known architect
for Chambord: Primatice, Dominique de Cortone,
Leonardo da Vinci... it could be any of these, but
                  no one is sure.
