Money

The January 1st 2002, the single currency of the Europe is the Euro.

Museums

French National museums are usually closed on Tuesdays, but it is best to check before visiting any museum to make sure there are no bad surprises.

Post office

Post offices are usually open from 9 am to 12 pm and from 2 pm to 5 pm, from Monday to Friday, and Saturday morning.
Main post offices are open from 9 am to 7 pm.

Stamps required (2006/2007 prices) to send a 20g letter from France to France : 0,54 euros

Roads

The Loire Valley is crossed from north to south by the RN10 Route Nationale and the A10 Autoroute (Orléans - Poitiers) and from east to west by part of the A11 Autoroute (Angers - Nantes). Informations on highway network: Cofiroute
Autoroutes are not free (charges depend on the distance covered)

Speed limits:
Departmental and national roads: 90 km/h
Autoroutes: 130 km/h (110 km in strong rain or fog)

Unless there are road signs clearly indicating the contrary, right of way is always to the right in France.

Shopping

Most stores are open from 9 am to 12 pm and from 2 pm to 7 pm.
In addition, more and more stores open on Mondays.
Supermarkets usually stay open later than 7 pm (up to 10 pm).

Telephone

Telephone numbers in France have 10 digits. If you use France Telecom, numbers in Paris and its region begin with 01, the North-west with 02, the North-east with 03, the South-east and Corsica with 04, the South-west and the overseas departements with 05...

Most phone booths use credit card or phone cards that are sold in post offices, tobacconists, newspapers stores, newsstands and in some other stores. They belong to France Telecom only.

To call from foreign countries to France:
00 33
(international code for France) + 9 digits . Do not dial the first digit of the French number 0.
Example: For the French phone number: 02 47 31 79 19
To call it from another country you must dial 00 33 2 47 31 79 19.
